Tso Lhamo Lake/ Cholamu Lake

Tso Lhamo Lake, located near the Indo-China border in North Sikkim, is a remote and stunning body of water surrounded by high peaks and rugged terrain. As one of the highest lakes in India, Tso Lhamo holds adventurers and nature enthusiasts with its raw natural beauty and untouched wilderness, offering a rare opportunity to drown oneself in the amazing landscapes of the Himalayas. Tso Lhamo Lake is also referred to as Cholamu Lake.

Baba Harbajan Singh Mandir

The Baba Harbajan Singh Mandir is a temple dedicated to an Indian army soldier Harbhajan Singh who died near the Nathula Pass. The temple is located between Nathula Pass and Jelep La Pass at a height of 13,123 feet. Many people believe Harbhajan Singh’s spirit protects the soldiers in the area.

Gurudongmar Lake

Gurudongmar is one of the highest lakes in the world at 17,800 feet. It is a sacred lake for Buddhists and Sikhs, named after Guru Padmasambhava who visited in the 8th century. The lake is located in North Sikkim near the border with China. Also, know about the history of the Gurudongmar Lake.

Nathu la Pass

Nathu La is a mountain pass and border post between India and China located at an elevation of 14,140 feet. It was an ancient trade route between India and Tibet as part of the Silk Road. The Nathu La Pass offers scenic views of the Chumbi valley.

Buddha Park

Also known as Tathagata Tsal, the Buddha Park near Ravangla features a 130-foot tall statue of Buddha. The statue was built to mark Buddha’s 2550th birth anniversary between 2006-2013. The park has a peaceful setting with a lake and meditation center. The Buddha Park or Tathagata Tsal is situated in the village of Ravangla in Sikkim.

Kanchenjunga Falls

This waterfall near Pelling is believed to originate from the glaciers of Mount Kanchenjunga. The Kanchenjunga falls stream from a height of 100 feet in rich greenery. It is a popular picnic spot that was unknown until the 1990s.

Zero Point

Zero Point, also known as Yumesamdong, is located at an altitude of 15,300 feet (4,663 meters) above sea level in North Sikkim. It lies on the Indo-China border and is the last outpost of civilization with no road ahead. It is famous for its stunning natural beauty, with the confluence of three rivers, surrounding snow-capped mountains, and marvelous scenic views. Despite the treacherous roads, Zero Point is one of Sikkim’s prime tourist attractions.

Kala Patthar

Kala Patthar means “black rock” in Hindi. It is located above the Thangu and Chopta valleys in North Sikkim at an altitude of 15,500 feet (4,724 meters). The area is perpetually covered in snow with freezing temperatures. The landscape features white snow broken only by some protruding black rocks, giving it a unique black and white appearance. 

Kala Patthar is considered the “mini Switzerland of Sikkim“. It is more peaceful and less crowded compared to Zero Point. The best time to visit is March to June, while December to February is suitable for skiing and snowboarding.
